University of Waterloo co-op employers continue to stand out among the best despite a challenging pandemic year.

Seventy-five of our standout employers were named as Canadas Top 100 Employers for 2022.

The Globe and Mail and Mediacorp announced the winners of the 22nd annual editorial competition on Friday, November 12. A special magazine published in The Globe and Mail also recognizes and features the winners.

“We’re excited to see so many of our excellent co-op employer recognized through these awards. I want to share my congratulations to each of them and thank them for their continued contributions to our program and in hiring our student talent.”

“While we want to be cautious talking about ‘silver linings’ from a pandemic that continues to exact a devastating toll,” says Anthony Meehan, publisher at Mediacorp, via press release. “Employers increasingly are thinking about what working life looks like after the pandemic. The best organizations are changing their workplaces to emphasize benefits like human interaction and camaraderie that offsite employees don’t get from a steady diet of Zoom meetings and chat applications.”

Last year’s list included 69 Waterloo co-op employers.

Canadas Top 100 Employers are selected using eight criteria, including health, financial and family benefits, work atmosphere and performance management.

“The pandemic has reminded us that human interaction is very much of the glue that binds society and workforce,” says Richard Yerema, managing editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project at Mediacorp, via press release. “While it’s clear that much office work can now be done from home, good employers are thinking more deeply about the adverse social and health effects that come from isolation, especially mental health.”

Employers of any size with a head office or principal place of business in Canada is eligible to apply for the competition.

Applicants for the 2023 competition will be available in early 2022.
