Research interests: structure and reactivity of atomically precise nanoclusters
Biography
Professor John Corrigan’s research team develops clusters on the nanometer scale – “atomically precise nanoclusters”. Specifically, the research program focuses on the design of reagents and methods for controlled nanocluster assembly. The research program develops new approaches to nanocluster synthesis for coinage metal materials (copper; silver; gold) where small molecules are designed, prepared and built into higher order molecular architectures. The research program is developing methods to prepare exceptionally stable ligand surfaces in order to markedly enhance the processability of nanoclusters and incorporate tailored surface functionality for sensing and labelling applications.
Corrigan completed his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Waterloo followed by a post-doctoral appointment at the Universität Karlsruhe, Germany (now Karlsruhe Institute for Technology). He joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada in but returned to the University of Waterloo in 2022 as Professor of Chemistry and Chair of the Department.
