This one-year degree offers students a state-of-the-art education that combines evidence-based, interdisciplinary courses with a one-term, 420-hour experiential practicum in a workplace setting. The flexible curriculum allows each student to customize the degree to their goals, resulting in an unparalleled graduate experience.
NOTE: Effective September 1, 2022, this program's name has changed. For those commencing the coursework program from Fall 2023, the degree conferred will be a Master's of Kinesiology (MKin).
Program overview
Our kinesiology graduate courses cover a variety of topics including biomechanics, neuroscience and physiology and nutrition, allowing you to craft the perfect complement to your career goals.
Course requirements
All requirements for the MKin Kinesiology coursework degree must be completed within three terms (one year). It is expected that students complete all coursework in the first two terms (fall and winter) and devote the spring term to the experiential practicum. Students pay fees each term, including while they complete their practicum.
- 4.0 total credits (equivalent to 8 full-term, full-credit courses)
- 2.0 from kinesiology
- 0.5 in qualitative or quantitative statistics
- 1.5 in elective courses
Seminar milestone
Students complete a mandatory seminar milestone by participating in department-wide and stream-specific seminars. These seminars provide extracurricular learning and networking opportunities with fellow graduate students, faculty members and guest speakers.
Advising
Each student is matched with an Academic Advisor* who is a faculty member from the Department Graduate Program Committee. This Advisor acts as an informal mentor and aids in discussions surrounding program details, course selection and the experiential practicum. The student-Advisor relationship is important as it assists in developing a sequence of courses and experiences customized to the career goal of each student.
*We try to match students with faculty members that have experience/expertise in their interests.

Experiential practicum
The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences has a host of partner organizations who have provided experiential practicum opportunities to our students. These high-quality placements allow students to gain invaluable hands-on experience and build their professional skill set and network to fast-track their career goals. Students are also encouraged to explore opportunities within their own network for a practicum experience that aligns with their professional goals and interests.
NOTE: Teaching Assistantship (TA) and Research Assistantship (RA) support and most scholarships are not available for the MSc coursework degree students. Students interested in these funding opportunities may wish to consider the thesis-based MSc program.
