Applying to Management Sciences:

In the graduate studies application system, the Management Science Department programs are listed as follows

Minimum admission requirements for Management Sciences Graduate programs:

MMSCI

  • A four year Honours Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a minimum 75% (B) average from an accredited university
  • Some of the required courses require a background preparation in calculus and probability.
  • Students who have obtained their prior degrees from Countries other than Canada should review the minimum equivalent qualification information in the Admission Guide for International Applicants

MASC

  • A four year Honours Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) with a minimum 80% average from an accredited university
  • Some of the required courses require a background preparation in calculus and probability.
  • Students who have obtained their prior degrees from Countries other than Canada should review the minimum equivalent qualification information in the Admission Guide for International Applicants

PhD Program Academic

  • A master's degree with a minimum 83% (A-) average from an accredited university.
  • Evidence of ability to pursue independent research
  • Students who have obtained their prior degrees from Countries other than Canada should review the minimum equivalent qualification information in the Admission Guide for International Applicants

Document requirements:

Transcripts

  • Unofficial academic transcript from each post-secondary institution attended must be submitted, including all marks and the awarding of degrees. - Official academic transcripts (received in a closed university envelope) are only required if you are offered admission
  • A certified translation is required if the transcript is not in English
  • University of Waterloo transcripts are not required
  • Chinese documents must include transcripts, graduation diplomas and degree certificates in Chinese, all with official English translations
  • Iranian documents must be approved and stamped by the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology or Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and include a copy of the transcript and degree certificate in Farsi
  • Uploaded electronically via Applicant Quest

References

  • Three (3) references are required for MMSci on campus, MASc & PhD programs
  • MMSC Online requires minimum of two (2) references
  • If the applicant has been working for more than 5 years, one business reference will be accepted along with two academic references
  • Your referees will be emailed with instructions on submitting forms electronically

Resume

  • An up-to-date resume or cv. Please be sure to include name of company, position held, and address.

Supplementary Information Form

  • Statement of Purpose - a one page statement addressing your academic background, area of research interest, proposed research studies.
  • Completed on-line using Applicant Quest

Test Scores:

  • Copies of test scores can be uploaded on Applicant Quest, or originals can be mailed directly by the testing agency

GMAT, GRE

  • GMAT and GRE are not required for Management Sciences

ESL

  • Please see Waterloo's Graduate Office List of countries that meet the Waterloo English requirement and are exempt from ESL test results
  • Management Sciences minimum test scores
    • Minimum TOEFL score is 580
    • Minimum TWE score is 4.0
    • Minimum internet-based TOEFL score is 90, plus 25 minimum in Speaking and Writing sections
    • Minimum IELTS is an overall score of 7.0
  • Education Testing Service (ETS) uses 0996 as the Institution Code for the University of Waterloo when reporting TOEFL and GRE scores; the department code to be used is: 99 or 01
  • TOEFL scores must be taken within the last 2 years of receipt of your application
