Growing up in Paris ON, I gained plenty of exposure to optometrists as a high myope which guided my pathway to UW for both my undergraduate degree and optometry school. As I went through my clerkships and ocular emergencies impacted my family, I started understanding that my interest in ocular disease was important enough that I wanted to explore further training to shape my career around this pillar of optometry. Thus, I am very excited to be the UWOVS Ocular Disease Resident for the next year!

I am currently working in the Ocular Health and Acute Care clinic at the WEI under the supervision of Dr. Sarah MacIver and Dr. Lisa Prokopich. After my residency, I intend to collaborate with local GPs, OMDs, and other healthcare professionals to establish an ocular health focused private practice, with long-term aspirations of supervising/teaching optometry students.

I earned my Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, where I was able to fulfill my childhood dream of becoming an eye doctor. What I enjoy most about optometry is building strong doctor-patient relationships, establishing trust, and combining science, problem-solving, and patient-centered care during every encounter. I’m passionate about continuing to learn and grow as an optometrist while providing patients with meaningful, personalized care.

I am the Dr. Gina Sorbara Cornea & Contact Lens Resident at UWaterloo this year! 
Going forward, I would love to work in academia and not only be a supervisor but also a professor. Outside of contact lens, I have a passion in posterior segment disease and pharmacology! In the future, I would love to open a private practice someday and incorporate specialty lenses as part of that practice!

I completed my 3-year Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Western Ontario and my Optometry degree at the University of Waterloo, where I became drawn to the Low Vision Rehabilitation specialty. In my free time, my hobbies include bouldering, watching Formula 1, and spending time outdoors. I am a huge animal lover and have an 8-year-old dog named Teddy and a 2-year-old cat named Lex.

Dr. Tammy Labreche and Dr. Shamrozé Khan are my supervisors for Vision Rehabilitation, with an Emphasis on Low Vision Rehabilitation.

I have an interest in all aspects of Vision Rehabilitation, including Low Vision, Binocular Vision, and Brain Injury.
