A study conducted by the Canadian Council for the Blind found that loss of vision is the disability that Canadians fear the most, and more than 25% of Canadians have a friend or family member with significant vision loss. The Centre for Sight Enhancement (CSE) in the Optometry Clinic at the University of Waterloo wants people to know that vision loss doesn’t have to lead to loss of independence. Comprehensive vision rehabilitation can improve quality of life.

The Centre’s Share the Gift of Sight program offsets the cost of comprehensive vision care by providing financial assistance to people with financial need to cover the costs of low vision assessments and devices.

This fundraiser features faculty members from the renowned Beckett School of Music at Wilfrid Laurier University’s prestigious Faculty of Music. The Beckett School’s Marlin Nagtegaal, an accomplished organist, and Music Director at St. John’s Anglican Church in Kitchener, has created an exciting programme featuring his faculty colleagues from The Beckett School.

Featured musicians include guitarist Dan Beackock, pianists Rebekah Jordan Miller, Nichole Robertson, Marnie Van Weelden, and Peter de Sousa,
percussionist and vibraphone player Dave O’Neill, and Danielle Beck, who teaches saxophone, flute and clarinet.

Established in 1984, the Centre for Sight Enhancement is a clinical, teaching and research unit within the School of Optometry & Vision Science at the
University of Waterloo. In the Centre’s Low Vision Clinic, clinicians and staff work with patients to improve visual function through the effective use of
assessment, training, counselling, and assistive devices. Learn more at uwaterloo.ca/sight-enhancement.
