Giving back to our community

On May 29, 2025, the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy faculty, staff and students prepared and served dinner at the Ray of Hope Community Centre for people experiencing houselessness and systemic barriers to acquiring meals in the community.

Benjamin Longley (Rx2028) and his research partner Connie Chong, MSc student in the Master of Peace and Conflict program, worked together to understand the barriers refugees face when accessing healthcare in Canada. Their project won third place in the Map the System Competition, sponsored by the Waterloo Institute for Complexity and Innovation (WICI).

Rx2026 students Julia Regina Cervantes, Jessica Chionglo, Anoosh Hajira and Giya Joseph win the 2025 Pharmasave Business Competition with Praxis - a healthcare resource designed to help pharmacists navigate cultural and dietary restrictions to tailor patient-specific medications.

Nicholas Cheng, MSc student at the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy, spent the last two years working on his graduate studies and navigating the business world. Looking back Cheng never expected his side project to launch another side project that eventually led to his start-up company, Evolv Biotech, where his team harnesses nanoparticles to clean toxic waste from oil and mining industries.
