Health Sciences first-year course selection

Welcome to the Health Sciences program!

Please see below for detailed information about your first year courses and course enrollment.

Fall term: September to December

Your first term (fall term) in Health Sciences consists of four required courses and two required labs. You'll be automatically enrolled in all of your fall term courses and labs.

Required courses

  • HLTH 101 - Introduction to Health (lecture and tutorial; 0.5 units)
  • BIOL 130 - Introductory Cell Biology (lecture and tutorial; 0.5 units)
  • BIOL 130L - Cell Biology Laboratory (lab; 0.25 units)
  • CHEM 120 - Physics & Chemical Properties of Matter (lecture and tutorial; 0.5 units)
  • CHEM 120L- Chemical Reaction Laboratory (lab; 0.25 units)
  • HEALTH 107 - Sociology of Activity, Health and Well-being (lecture; 0.5 units)

You do not have to request any courses for the fall term.

In July, you can log into Quest to view your class schedule.

Notes:

  • HLTH 101 tutorials start the second week of classes.
  • The CHEM 120L lab starts during the second week of classes and takes place every other week.
  • You must attend the labs on each of the dates listed on your class schedule.

Winter term: January to April

Your second term (winter term) in Health Sciences consists of five required courses and one required lab. You'll be automatically enrolled in all your winter term courses and lab.

Required courses

  • HLTH 102 - Introduction to Health (lecture and tutorial; 0.5 units)
  • HLTH 245 - Canadian Health Systems (lecture; 0.5 units)
  • BIOL 273 - Principles of Human Physiology 1 (lecture; 0.5 units)
  • PSYCH 101- Introductory Psychology (lecture; 0.5 units)
  • CHEM 123 - General Chemistry 2 (lecture; 0.5 units)
  • CHEM 123L - General Chemistry Laboratory 2 (lab; 0.25 units)

You do not have to request any courses for the winter term.

In November, you can log into Quest to view your class schedule.
