The Most Reverend Robert John Renison (1875-1957) was the Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of Ontario in the Anglican Church of Canada and Archbishop of the Diocese of Moosonee from 1952-1954. He also served as Bishop of the Diocese of Moosonee (1944-1952), Rector of St. Paul’s Parish on Bloor St. in Toronto (1932-1944), Bishop of the Diocese of Athabasca (1932), as well as rector of other parishes. He was born in County Tipperary in Ireland and immigrated to Canada as a child when his father was called to serve as a missionary in the Algoma region of Ontario. He was educated at Trinity College School in Port Hope, Ontario, and the University of Toronto and at Wycliffe College at the University of Toronto, after which he was ordained to the priesthood in 1899. After his death in 1957, a new Anglican college created in Waterloo, Ontario was named after him, affiliated with the University of Waterloo: Renison University College. Renison University College’s Lusi Wong Library holds Archbishop Renison’s papers, which include photographs, drafts of his writings, sermon notes, certificates, and more.
