Approaching networking as an introvert

Meeting UWaterloo alumni to share ideas and experiences

Hi there! I’m Colette, a second-year student in the Sustainability and Financial Management Program. In a few days, I will be meeting some SAF alumni through the Fellowship Program Café and will have the opportunity to speak to them about their experience in the program, how it’s helped them in their careers, and more.

Moving your entire life from one city to another can seem daunting but imagine moving everything to a new country or continent. While the experience brings countless challenges, it is also equally rewarding. Balancing personal, academic, and extracurricular commitments paired with social challenges can be overwhelming.

Join me as I run from the Optometry building to Renison University College in 10 minutes. Let this be a cautionary tale to not bite off more than you can chew.

The transition from high school to university is a big one, mainly because of the vast differences between the two. Below are some key differences to watch out for!

This summer was my first time experiencing university in person. Along with the adjustment period, I feel like I learned a lot about student life, how to study effectively, and the importance of balance.

In all honestly, I used to dislike case competitions. Competing was stressful and I lost several times, however, despite my suboptimal experiences in the past, I found a turning point this year with the STRIVE Conference case competition, which is among Ontario’s largest accounting-focused conferences.

Gurkomal, a second-year Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) student, had the opportunity to attend the Women in Accounting and Finance 10th Anniversary event and connect with speakers who offered her motivating advice as successful women leaders. This networking event was the most inspiring one she’s attended yet.

Hi, my name is Gurkomal, and I am a second-year student studying Accounting and Financial Management at the School of Accounting and Finance.

Lessons learned from competing at STRIVE

Through the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) External Competition Subsidy Program, I recently had the pleasure of competing in the STRIVE Case Competition, where my team came in first place!
