With the Indonesia trip around the corner, the corporate relations team has been busy finalizing which companies we will be meeting with while we’re away! After weeks of hard work and perseverance, our team has successfully filled out our meeting schedule.

From challenge to experience:

Each year, the Global Case Competition at Harvard University attracts over 3,000 finance and business students from 100 universities across the world to present their financial valuation and strategy-backed recommendations to a mergers and acquisitions (M&A) case. 

Our trip to Vietnam in August is fast approaching, and the meals and logistics team has been busy planning various components of the trip. As our schedule fills up with meetings, activities, and everything in-between, the trip is really starting to take shape. Although we are so excited, a considerable amount of thought, planning, and research must go into making sure everything runs smoothly.

The marketing and culture team has been actively researching unique activities in Vietnam to explore its captivating culture and breathtaking natural beauty. Vietnam offers many experiences that appeal to all our senses. Amidst our packed schedule, we have set aside leisure time on the weekend to explore the vibrant streets of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, admire the architectural marvels of the Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon, and delve into the historical significance of the Reunification Palace.

The School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) is pleased to share that Jillian Adams has been awarded the Warren Ober Award for Outstanding Teaching by a Graduate Student. This award is given to a University of Waterloo graduate student in the Faculty of Arts who has made significant contributions to teaching.

Since our introduction blog, the marketing and culture team has been hard at work searching for adventurous activities that we can take part in while exploring Indonesia.  It’s no secret that the country has a wide variety of exciting activities that allow for us to both take part in the deep-rooted culture as well as experience the breathtaking views that Indonesian nature has to offer.

As we near the end of the term and eventually set out for our International Study Course trip, our team has been figuring out various logistics and details needed to make the trip as successful as possible.

The Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) is a highly competitive event in which teams from universities across the world compete against each other in a simulated venture capital investment process. Our team from the University of Waterloo (myself, Matthew, Alyzeh, Aryaman, Vireshaar and Daniel) were thrilled to have made it to the global finals after winning the Canadian regional competition held in Halifax.

When Blake Phillips began his doctorate in finance in 2009, he was asked to declare a focus. With previous degrees in biology and forestry and an interest in conservation, he zeroed in on sustainable finance.
