Recently, our team of Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) students Ian, Luka, and Chiranjeev competed in Toronto Metropolitan University’s annual Battle on Bay case competition and bagged a second-place position! This competition is a three-day event comprised of various networking events, pitches and socials which concluded with an awards ceremony and gala dinner.
The first day of the event began with a social gathering designed to help participants connect and get to know the other teams in a relaxed and informal setting. This opening event provided an excellent opportunity to build camaraderie, break the ice and establish new relationships with fellow competitors, setting a positive tone for the days ahead.
On the second day, we had the privilege of meeting a variety of industry professionals from diverse backgrounds. These interactions offered insights into their experiences and expertise, enriching our understanding of the field and providing inspiration for our own career paths. Later that day, we presented our first pitch to a panel of judges. The experience was both challenging and rewarding as we had the opportunity to showcase our ideas and receive constructive feedback.
The final day featured a high-pressure crisis case, testing our ability to think and execute under tight deadlines. We were tasked with solving a two-hour case, which involved creating a detailed financial model to assess the feasibility of a potential merger. Our team then developed a strategic recommendation for the acquiring company and presented our findings to another panel of judges. Though the process was demanding, the bite was worth the chew! We had the opportunity to showcase our ideas and receive constructive feedback. This exercise also further honed our analytical, teamwork, and presentation skills, providing a fitting conclusion to an incredible experience.
After an intense competition against talented teams from across the country, we were proud to place second in the final rankings, a testament to our dedication, collaboration, and strategic thinking.
