As part of the International Study Course’s Spring 2025 trip to Hong Kong, we were able to explore all the corners of a beautiful island. While the priority of the visit was to learn about how businesses operate in Hong Kong, we still got an amazing opportunity to visit many tourist sites, try new foods and immerse ourselves in a culture unlike anywhere else in the world. As the Marketing and Culture team, we led the team through 3 days of non-meeting time with the goal of building lifelong memories.
Our first full day started with a 25-minute ride on glass-floored cable cars up to the Ngong Ping Village. This ride offered picturesque views of mountains and the Pacific Ocean from an aerial perspective that led us right to the next stop: the Tian Tan Buddha. 268 steps up in the hot Hong Kong sun later, we reached the peak where the 34-meter-tall statue sat, and our spirits were still high as we made our way to the stunning Tai O fishing village where many students indulged in a surprising Hong Kong favourite: grilled squid.
Day two was focused on older Hong Kong historical sites including the Wong Tai Sin Temple. We explored the parks, mini museums and gardens of the sites. We then spent some time taking photos of the beautiful ancient architecture at the Nan Lian Garden and Chi Lin Nunnery. The team ended the night in front of Hong Kong’s beautiful nightly light show on the iconic Victoria Harbour waterfront overlooking Central Island, where we truly got a glimpse of what makes Hong Kong so special.
On our last full day, we visited the iconic Victoria Peak Observation Deck. The team tactically decided to take the Disney themed tram up to the Peak. Once there, we basked in the beauty of the skyline of Asia’s world city from above. This was the best opportunity for photos and gazing of the trip… that is until the notorious Hong Kong monsoon season hit (which had mostly left us alone up to this point) to remind us of where we were and force us into a nearby mall. This was where we tried Hong Kong locals' favourite: golden chicken rice.
Three days, many unique meals, and 10 bottles of Pocari Sweat (each) later, it’s safe to say our team had an amazing weekend we won’t soon forget!
