We’ve just returned from an incredible trip to New York City!
After a memorable week filled with sightseeing, connecting with alumni, watching a Broadway show, attending meetings and so much more, we're reflecting on our time away and sharing a few of our favourite moments by highlighting 3 photos and 3 stories from the trip.
After everyone arrived in New York City on the first night, the team gathered at Din Tai Fung to enjoy the first meal together. We tried a variety of delicious dishes including dumplings, xiao long baos, noodles, and fried rice. Sitting together at a round table was the perfect opportunity to connect with each other at the start of the trip. We ended the meal by trying the iconic chocolate xiao long baos and sea salt cream for dessert. Ultimately, the most memorable moment of the night was gathering to enjoy a meal and building excitement for the week ahead!
After a rainy day in New York City, the team headed to New Amsterdam Theatre to watch Aladdin on Broadway. Our highly anticipated 2.5-hour Broadway show was an unforgettable experience. From the stunning production to the nostalgic songs to the flying magic carpet, the show brought the story to life. What stood out the most was the power of storytelling to immerse the audience in the different characters’ perspectives.
Throughout the week, we had the opportunity to meet with various companies and explore topics such as private equity, private credit and AI. On day 3, the team met with several firms before visiting The Vessel. Highlights from the day included hearing about how alumni have navigated their career transitions and learning about the diverse roles they have today.
Overall, we learned an incredible amount from all our amazing hosts in NYC, ranging from Univerisry of Waterloo alumni to professionals simply willing to provide us with this opportunity to learn. From each of these experiences, we learned so much about current trends in finance, technology and careers. Alongside this, the class had so much fun planning the trip, learning how to navigate the city and getting closer as friends throughout the week!
Thank you, NYC, for all the insights we plan to apply in our future academic and professional journeys!
