This year’s Fusion Conference highlighted the growing connection between the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) and the Faculty of Science. With interdisciplinary teams combining scientific insight, business strategy and financial thinking, Fusion was a clear showcase of how these two academic worlds strengthen one another. The conference was proudly supported and sponsored by both the Faculty of Science and SAF, reinforcing a shared commitment to developing future leaders who can innovate at the intersection of science, business and technology.

How to win a case competition in just seven hours

What would you create from scratch if you had only seven hours to solve a real-world problem?

At Fusion Conference 2025, students were pushed to think differently — to merge science, business and technology and build solutions that could make a real-world impact. This year’s theme, Bridging the Health Gap, challenged teams to move from idea to pitch in just seven hours.

One team rose to the challenge by researching, designing and pitching an early-detection breathalyzer for lung-cancer screening — all within the same day.

Congratulations to Murto, Kiranjot, Roma, Iñigo and Yubin, winners of the Most Innovative Solution award for their future-focused concept: a rapid screening breathalyzer designed to support earlier diagnosis and improved outcomes.
