Awards Celebration

The School of Accounting and Finance Awards Celebration is an evening that brings together our entire community, consisting of our alumni and current students, donors and supporters and faculty and staff of the School. Our ever-growing community continues to make the School proud.

This annual event celebrates our distinguished alumni Honourees and student Fellows in our Fellowship Program; our scholarship recipients and their supporters and beginning in 2009, the celebration introduced the creation of the Alumni Awards to honor the outstanding leadership and accomplishments of our alumni.

2022 Awards

Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award

The Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award was established in 2009 to recognize the accomplishments of the alumni of the School that continue to put their efforts to building a better world. This honour is awarded to alumni that have achieved a notable level of success and have distinguished themselves through their professional achievements, as well as with their community. Their contributions inspire their peers, fellow University of Waterloo alumni, as well as current students at the School.

In 2022, the School recognized the accomplishments of Susan Uthayakumar (MAcc '95). Susan Uthayakumar is the chief energy and sustainability officer at Prologis. She is responsible for evaluating and scaling both existing and emerging energy solutions across the Prologis platform and for ensuring that Prologis continues to be the leader in sustainability in the logistic real estate industry.

Leader to Watch Award

The School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) Leader to Watch Award was established in 2009 to recognize the accomplishments of the School of Accounting and Finance’s more recent graduates who have distinguished themselves through their professional achievements, and community service. These young alumni inspire their peers, other University of Waterloo alumni, and students: through their business and humanitarian activities, entrepreneurial accomplishments and volunteer leadership.    

In 2022, the School recognized the accomplishments of Matthew Roman, CPA (MTax '12). Matthew Roman is a Partner as well as the National Tax Learning & Development Leader at KPMG LPP. He is a recipient of the CPA Canada Gold Medal for achieving the highest standing in Ontario on the Common Final Examination (CFE) of the CPA Profession.
