Abstract: Does fundamental physics need machine learning and artificial intelligence? I will describe why machine learning has been an essential tool in particle physics and demonstrate how it can open doors to entirely new kinds of discoveries. I will also discuss the role of broader forms of AI in the future of physics and share my experience in science communication.
