Celebrating our students with the 2026 Science Awards

The Faculty of Science is home to many inspirational undergraduate students whose academic accomplishments continue to motivate those around them. Every year, we come together to celebrate these students at the Science Awards banquet. Here are some highlights from the event.

Destination Physics Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible by donations from alumni and friends of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. It’s awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate student based on academic excellence.

Kay and Harry McLeod Chemistry Entrance Scholarship

This scholarship is made possible through the generosity of Kay and the late Harry McLeod. Harry McLeod was a former chair of the Chemistry department, a respected faculty member, and one of the founders of the Science and Chemistry co-op education programs. This award is presented annually to a first-year undergraduate who has indicated an interest in selecting Chemistry as a major.

University of Waterloo International Student Entrance Scholarship

This scholarship supports an outstanding international student entering the University of Waterloo. It recognizes exceptional academic performance and celebrates the global perspectives these students bring to our community.

• Youssef Fadlallah

Jack and Annie Scott Aquatic Science Award

This award is made possible by a donation from the estate of Eileen Wiegand in honour of her parents, Jack and Annie Scott. Jack was a member of the founding University of Waterloo Board of Governors and, together with his wife, Annie, instilled a strong commitment to community and an understanding of the importance of education in Eileen and her family. It’s awarded annually to a full-time undergraduate majoring in Biology and accepted into BIOL 499 (Senior Honours Project) with an intent to pursue research in aquatic sciences.

Maksim Brawn Award for Women in Aviation

This award is made possible by a donation from the Brawn family to encourage women pursing education in STEM. It’s presented annually to a full-time undergraduate who identifies as a woman and is awarded based on academic excellence and extracurricular involvement. Preference is given to students making an effort to advance women in science and/or aviation.

• Preksha Shah

Schulich Leader Scholarship

This award is provided by the Schulich Foundation and goes to entrepreneurial-minded high school graduates enrolling in a science, technology, engineering or math (STEM) program at 20 partner universities across Canada, including the University of Waterloo.
