The Faculty of Science would like to congratulate distinguished scientist Dr. Rajibul Islam on being elected to the American Physical Society’s Fellows

The American Physical Society (APS) is a scientific membership organization committed to advancing physics and creating a welcoming professional home for the world’s physics community. The APS Fellowship Program was created to recognize members who may have made advances in physics through original research and publication or made significant innovative contributions to the application of physics to science and technology. They may also have made significant contributions to the teaching of physics or service and participation in the activities of the Society.

Dr. Islam was nominated for his exceptional efforts in promoting science education in rural India and Bangladesh through community outreach, including founding the Bengali online journal Bigyan and co-founding the Open Quantum Design for open-source quantum computing.

“It is inspiring that the American Physical Society (APS) has recognized our efforts in science outreach,” says Islam. “The project in India has been a passion of mine and my partners’ since 2014 and I am so proud of what we have accomplished.”

Fellowship is a distinct honour signifying recognition by one's professional peers and very few are named annually.

Congratulations to Dr. Islam on this incredible honour.
