Program: Mathematical Physics, Computing minor

Year: 3

Stream of study: Co-op

Pronouns: He/Him

Career goal: Quantum computing researcher

How I get involved: I have been a member at the University's tennis club since my first year here, and recently joined as an exec. I've met plenty of people through the club and really value the community it’s built for me outside of academics. I also get involved in different ways on campus by volunteering as a physics tutor. Being engaged in both academics and extracurriculars has made my time at Waterloo feel well-rounded and fulfilling.

Why I love my program

I love my program because it lets me explore the intersection of rigorous mathematics and real-world physics problems. At Waterloo, I am surrounded by hardworking peers who constantly push me to do better and think more deeply. The collaborative atmosphere makes even the most challenging courses feel rewarding, and I’ve found that working through tough problems with others is one of the best parts of the experience. I also appreciate how the program gives me the freedom to follow my curiosities, whether through elective courses or exploring my growing interest in quantum computing through research. It’s a place where I feel both challenged and supported, which makes me even more excited about where this path will lead.

Why University of Waterloo?

With Waterloo being home to the Perimeter Institute and having the Institute for Quantum Computing located on campus, I couldn't say no to studying here. The co-op program felt like the perfect way to get involved in research at those institutes. I also visited the campus when I was in high school, and I knew right away that both the university and the city were the right fit for me.
