How I get involved: During my first year, I served as the First Year Representative for UWMA (University of Waterloo’s Malayalee Association), where I contributed to various club activities such as creating Instagram promotional posts, acting as the primary communication between fellow first-year students and the executive team, and joining the club’s dance team for the Mallu Formal event. At Mallu Formal, we competed in the dance competition against Malayalee student associations from other universities in Ontario, such as UofT, McMaster, Guelph, and many more. One memorable highlight of my time in the club was our club's dance team winning first place in the Mallu Formal dance competition. Currently, I am serving as the Vice President of UWMA, and I am enjoying the club's growth and my expanded role within it. Beyond UWMA, I am also involved in other aspects of campus life at Waterloo. In my first year, I was a Marketing Executive for a science club called WATSAM (Waterloo Students and Microbiology). During this summer, I volunteered as a SciEye Leader for Science Orientation, where I helped run the 24/7 Ask-Me Booth alongside other SciEye leaders. Currently, I am working as a First Year Cell Biology Lab Teaching Assistant for the Fall Term!

Why I love my program

One simple reason I love my program is the level of preparedness and structure it provides. It helps me complete all the prerequisites for professional pathways such as Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy and this preparation for multiple career options at once is helpful in case I ever decide to change my mind on one. In addition, I enjoy the wide range of courses I get to take from social science and humanities electives such as PSYCH 101 to specialized biology courses such as BIOL 240 (Intro to Microbiology).

Why University of Waterloo?

First and foremost, it was the community-driven spirit at the University of Waterloo that drew me here. Every day that I’m on campus, I’m grateful for choosing the University of Waterloo because of the incredible support I receive from peers, professors, and academic advisors. There are a lot of available supportive campus resources here to help support both my mental health and academic success. In addition, the University recognizes that every student has different career goals in mind, and it will go above and beyond to help each of us prepare for success, both academically and professionally, as we grow into mature, well-rounded individuals.
