Program: Honours Science
Year: 2
Pronouns: She/Her
Career goal: Optometrist
How I get involved: I like to get involved at Waterloo by volunteering with Let’s Talk Science! It’s a great workshop where I get to visit elementary schools and high schools around the area and interact with future students who might also be interested in science. Joining clubs is another way I like to get involved. The pre-optometry club and cooking club were the ones that I participated the most in.
Why I love my program
Honours Science is awesome because of its flexibility. I’m able to complete all my pre-requisite courses alongside with other science or non-science courses that I find interesting. Since I’m able to take any science course I like, I’m also able to take the (sometimes optional) lab courses as well! I love working in a lab and being able to gain lab experience in different branches of science is an opportunity I wouldn’t get with another program.
Why University of Waterloo?
I chose Waterloo because if I get into the optometry program after my third year, I’m able to obtain my undergraduate degree in addition with the Doctor of Optometry degree. This saves me a year of school. I’ve also heard how friendly and welcoming the science community is at Waterloo, and forming relationships within the community is important to me.
