Program: Biomedical Sciences

Year: 3

Stream of study: Regular

Pronouns: She/Her

Career goal: Medicine or biomedical-related research!

How I get involved: I enjoy staying involved both on and off campus here at Waterloo! On campus, I am involved with the UW Karate and Jujitsu Club, and I have been an Orientation Leader twice with the Warriors and Science team. I’m also in my second term as a teaching assistant for the Biology labs, where I get to support students academically and help run lab sessions! I regularly enjoy volunteering with Let’s Talk Science and other science outreach programs as well. Outside of campus, I love to stay connected with the community by volunteering at the local hospital, where I get to interact directly with patients!

Why I love my program

One of the things I love about the science courses in my program is that they’re not just about lectures, but you also get valuable hands-on experience through labs guaranteed at least once every term. These lab sessions let you apply what you’ve learned in class to real-world scenarios, making the material more engaging and helping to reinforce your understanding behind the application of science. The Biomedical Sciences curriculum is also thoughtfully designed to meet the prerequisites for a variety of professional pathways, including medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, and optometry. So whether you’re thinking about healthcare or research, you will be guaranteed of building a strong science foundation from the start! With electives offered each term, you also have the flexibility to explore your interests or even pursue a minor within or outside of science!

Why University of Waterloo?

The community at Waterloo is incredibly inclusive, supportive, and filled with people who genuinely want to see you succeed! It has made such a positive difference in my experience starting University and I have grown so much, both academically and personally, through getting involved on campus and connecting with my wonderful peers!
