Professor Harrigan retires after 28 years of service
We celebrated Kevin Harrigan, PhD, and his retirement this past weekend. Professor Harrigan has been a valued member of the #uwaterloo community since joining the Centre for Teaching Excellence in 1995 and the Stratford School since it began as the Stratford Campus in 2011. He taught courses in multimedia, computer game design, management information systems and computer programming. With over 60 publications in gambling, pathological gambling and the sociology of gambling, Harrigan leaves a mark in his research field.
He researched gaming addiction and how techniques used by slot machines could be used for positive outcomes like encouraging people to exercise or to quit smoking (#gamification).
Professor Harrigan was a founding member of the Waterloo Games Institute and Director - Knowledge Translation Stream in the Gambling Research Lab with Psychology and Computer Science colleagues.
Kevin's research was awarded government funding through the Gambling Research Exchange Ontario, NSERC, the Manitoba Gambling Research Program and the University of Waterloo.
We hope you think back to your time at the University of Waterloo as rewarding and look at retirement as your pay-off for all your dedication and hard work… the winning ticket.
All the best in your retirement!
