Stratford Researcher Receives $165,000 in Mitacs Accelerate Grants to Improve Accessibility and Business Outcomes Using Gameful Design

Lennart Nacke has partnered with Alpha Labs, Wiggles 3D, and MLD Solutions to help these companies tackle challenging problems they are facing. Mitacs Accelerate grants support collaborative research between faculty at academic institutions, non-academic partners, and research interns.

Students Challenged to Create Privacy Conscious Solutions for Connectivity in Online Design Jam

73 students created innovative solutions to a privacy design challenge at uXperience | Think Privacy – the annual fall design camp hosted by the Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business – competing for more than $7,400 in prizes. Students were challenged to design a solution inspired by the increased need for virtual connection brought on by COVID-19.

Convocation is a time to celebrate a significant milestone. This year’s convocation celebrations may look a little different, but the role of the valedictorian remains the same — to represent the graduating class and address the students, families and supporters who will come together to recognize this important day.

ALOHA From New York, GBDA Student Helps Advance Conversational AI Systems

Global Business and Digital Arts student Julia Sprague, alongside her Computation Health and Informatics Lab (CHIL) team, recently celebrated the publication of their paper, “ALOHA: Artificial Learning of Human Attributes for Dialogue Agents.” Led by Professor Jesse Hoey, the team’s paper was published in Google Scholar and accepted to the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) conference in New York, where the group presented their findings in February.

StoryCamp welcomed over 100 students to participate in multimodal story design competition.

More than 135 registrants from Waterloo's main campus, the Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business and other institutions, descended upon the Stratford School Saturday morning to participate in StoryCamp, a 15-hour design competition on multimodal storytelling.
