St. Paul’s University College has once again demonstrated its commitment to the local community by concluding a remarkably successful United Way campaign.
“Our university is strongly supported by the community in which it’s located” says St. Paul’s Principal Richard Myers. “And there’s no better way to show our appreciation of the local community than through donations to the regional United Way.”
The College set a fund-raising goal of $3,200 with a “stretch” goal of $3,800. The final total for the St. Paul’s was an amazing $4,630.
“That just goes to confirm that this is an institution with a strong social conscience and a great deal of heart” says Myers.
The campaign was brilliantly led by staff members Brianna Johnston (Admissions and Guest Services Coordinator) and Landon Jennings (Advancement and Alumni Relations). Kudos to them for their outstanding work!
Brianna says she feels privileged to work for an organization that cares so much about supporting our community. “The desire to help others is engrained in our workplace and having the chance to work on the United Way campaign has been such a great experience for me. It’s encouraging to see how a small group of people can make such a difference in their community.”
She also emphasized the importance and value of the involvement of Landon, who worked full-time on the University of Waterloo campaign last year.
“Landon’s passion for the United Way is evident and so contagious; working with her on planning these events has been such a fun experience that I’m looking forward to next year already!”
Landon says that she was delighted to have the opportunity to continue working on behalf of United Way from her new position here at St. Pauls. “Given my experience as the United Way Campaign Coordinator for the University of Waterloo’s 2018 campaign, and my volunteer work as an IMPACT speaker for United Way WRC, I was thrilled when I was asked to help out with St. Paul’s internal campaign this year. This charity is close to my heart given my past experiences and it was so nice to see that the college has such enthusiasm about giving back to the community through United Way.”
$775 of the total amount raised came from special events, some of which were generously supported by Chartwells, the College’s food service provider. Heartfelt thanks to Jenn and Vince! The balance came from individual pledges. The College had an exceptional participation rate of 77% and a remarkable average gift of $227.
St. Paul’s efforts form part of a larger University of Waterloo United Way Campaign, which had an overall target of $250, 000. The Co-Chair of the University’s campaign, Kim Gingerich, says “Reaching our United Way goal is only made possible when we have participation from across campus. St Paul’s consistently steps up to support the campaign and we’re thrilled with this year’s results. We want to sincerely thank everyone who participated.”
