Join us every Thursday for our infamous Soup & Bannock lunch from 12-2pm during Fall and Winter, exluding reading week and the exam period.
Every Thursday WISC welcomes a different host for our Soup & Bannock Lunch from 12:00 - 2:00 pm in room 228, our General Gathering Space. At the beginning of each academic year, WISC invites registration sign-up for Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations and groups, both on- and off-campus, to come in to the WISC kitchen and make their best soup recipes for the WISC Indigenous community to enjoy. For many years the amazing Bannock that accompanies the soup is made by our loyal volunteer Sylvia – she is in the kitchen for hours before the lunch preparing the Bannock and often does not stay when her job is done, but we always take the opportunity to acknowledge her huge and selfless contribution to our bellies, and more importantly our community coming together over one of our favorite comfort foods.
The event is held every Thursday throughout the Fall and Winter terms, and monthly throughout the Spring term. At around 1:00 pm, WISC makes weekly announcements, acknowledges the host for the week, and offers an opportunity for Indigenous community announcements from those in attendance. The host for the week is also offered an opportunity to share with attendees where they are from, what services they offer for Indigenous students, and any exciting events and projects that they have coming up. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and engage with the hosts as well as the broader Indigenous community that the weekly lunch attracts. To respect that WISC is centered around services and supports for Indigenous students’ well-being, we ask that this is considered by non-Indigenous attendees when coming to enjoy lunch with our community. The lunch makes for lots of friendship, good times, informal learning and sharing, and immeasurable community-building!
