The David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science (previously called Applied Analysis and Computer Science) became the largest department in the Faculty of Mathematics by 1969. The school, together with the remaining departments in the Faculty of Mathematics, form one of the largest groups of mathematical talent in the world. The school is Canada's largest computer science department and a world leader in the discipline. Named after David R. Cheriton, a graduate, there is a long history of success stories associated with the school and its graduates. The school offers undergraduate and graduate computer science programs that prepare students to tackle problems – from the theoretical to the practical – in diverse fields such as health informatics, medicine, finance, digital media, fine arts, psychology, neuroscience, business, engineering, math and science.
