Meeting for students planning to graduate in 2018!

We're holding a 4th and 5th year/graduating students' information session on Thursday, February 8, 5:30 - 6:30 pm, in M3-1006

Please join us to get important information to help you prepare for Math Grad Ball in March and for graduation in June or October. The agenda and list of speakers follow below.

Note: PIZZA and beverages will be served around 5:30 (or when the pizza arrives during the meeting) – courtesy of Dave Smith of Lifetouch!! Thank you, Dave!

MATH GRAD BALL

VALEDICTORIAN – Nomination Form: https://uwaterloo.ca/math/current-undergraduates/about-graduate-0

  • Would you be interested in being Valedictorian at one of the two Math Faculty convocation ceremonies on June 15 or know of a fellow student you’d like to nominate? If so, please complete and submit the nomination form to the Math Grad Committee at the MathSoc Office by Friday, March 2. Want to know more about who is eligible, tips for writing a convocation speech, and the selection process? Come to the meeting. Candidates will be invited to audition their speeches for a panel of judges before the end of classes this term.

ALAN GEORGE LEADERSHIP AWARD – Nomination Form:https://uwaterloo.ca/math/current-undergraduates/about-graduate-0

  • Have you been or know of a Math Faculty student who has been involved in leadership roles during your/their undergraduate years at Waterloo and will graduate in good standing in June or October 2018? If so, consider completing and submitting the leadership award nomination form to the Math Grad Committee at the MathSoc Office by Friday, March 9

Here’s the AGENDA AND SPEAKERS for our meeting on Thursday:

  • 5:30 Welcome – Gayle Goodfellow, Communications and Student Services Officer, Faculty of Mathematics
  • 5:35 Preparing to graduate: Intent to graduate form, Alan George Leadership Award, Convocation, Valedictorian selection process – Serge D'Alessio, Associate Dean, Admissions and Outreach, Faculty of Mathematics. 

Note: Convocation takes place during two ceremonies on Friday, June 15. The morning (10 am) ceremony honours students in these majors: Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, Combinatorics and Optimization, Computational Mathematics, Information Technology Management, Mathematics/Business Administration, Mathematics/Chartered Professional Accountancy, Mathematical Economics, Mathematics/Financial Analysis and Risk Management, Mathematical Studies, Mathematics/Teaching, Pure Mathematics, Statistics, and Three-Year General Mathematics. 

The afternoon ceremony (2:30 pm) honours students in Business Administration and Mathematics Double Degree, Business Administration and Computer Science Double Degree, Computer Science, and Computing and Financial Management.
