Event: The Engineering Consultant Selection Process: how the Region of Waterloo evaluates engineering proposals in response to RFPs.
Speakers: Lisa Evans, Region of Waterloo Chief Procurement Officer, and Donna Serrati, Region of Waterloo Manager of Engineering and Programs
Host: George Lamont, Department of English Language and Literature, GENE 191/199 instructor
In this special engineering guest-speaker event, Lisa Evans and Donna Serrati will talk about the realities of how engineering projects are scoped and how firms are selected for projects at the Region of Waterloo. Requests for Proposals (or “RFPs”) from the Region of Waterloo elicit interest from many competitors in engineering and construction, so the Region has developed a thorough and exacting selection process.
Engineers of all kinds will find this talk extremely informative as they think about how to communicate their value to governments, clients, and community stakeholders. The presentation will also be relevant to English instructors who have an interest in teaching engineering communication or, more broadly, business, science, or professional communication. The talk will include explanations of how the Region of Waterloo evaluates proposals, the speakers will discuss current and emerging directions in engineering projects, and the speakers will also talk about skills and capacities that engineers and engineering firms will require to meet the needs of the Region of Waterloo’s wide-ranging engineering projects in the future.
Faculty, staff, and students are welcome at this event. RSVP and sign up for seating at the following location (names will not be visible to anyone but George Lamont): https://doodle.com/poll/rdpe3y3ceyzvq7au
