The Writing and Communication Centre will be hosting its Winter 2019 iteration of Speak Like a Scholar from February 19th to 22nd. This program is designed to help doctoral researchers develop their voices as independent scholars and give academic presentations such as dissertation defenses and conference papers with confidence.

You spend a lot of hours marking, and you want your investment of time to be worthwhile for your students and for you. This workshop will combine lecturing, discussion, and activities, focusing on developing the following qualities:

Accuracy: Assigning grades that are justifiable and in line with course guidelines.

You’re about to finish your course work or comprehensive exams and have started to think about writing your thesis or dissertation. Where do you begin?

This full-day workshop, sponsored by GRADventure, will guide early stage graduate students through some of the first phases of planning and writing a thesis or dissertation.

The Centre for Career Action workshop is designed especially for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows looking at applying for academic jobs.

Through discussion and hands—on activities in this half—day workshop, you will learn how to prepare an effective résumé and cover letter by analyzing job descriptions, assessing the relevance of your transferable skills and articulating these transferable skills in an action—oriented way.

Bring your laptop or pen and paper and get drafting or improving your résumé and cover letter.
