Doing the right thing

The International Sustainable Aviation and Energy Research Society (SARES) has given the 2022 Science Award to Paul Parker, professor at the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development (SEED) and Geography and Environmental Management (GEM) for his outstanding research and invaluable contributions to sustainable aviation globally.

A new study led from the University of Waterloo discovered greenhouse gas production is significantly less when biobased residues like compost replaces widely used nitrogen fertilizer during spring freeze-thaw events in cold temperate regions.

On July 1st, 2022, the Faculty of Environment will say farewell to Jean Andrey, fondly called Dean Jean, our esteemed dean of eight years. The whole community wishes her the best in her retirement as we reflect on all her accomplishments and contributions to the Faculty.

In the Winter 2022 term, the Faculty of Environment offered an e-Learning Graduate-level Course on Decolonizing Methodologies for Sustainability Research. The course was designed and delivered by School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability (SERS) PhD students Lowine Hill and Madu Galappaththi, and former School of Planning PhD student Sarah Ghorpade.

Three researchers from the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Environment have been awarded funding from the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) to work with the community to investigate the lack of family-sized apartment housing despite the recent building boom in the Region of Waterloo.
