Urgent climate action can secure a livable future for all

The leading world body for the assessment of climate change, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), has released their final installment of the Sixth Assessment Report. It indicates there are multiple, feasible and effective options to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to human-caused climate change, but we must act now. This work is the result of the efforts of hundreds of scientists and experts who have contributed as IPCC authors and assessed thousands of scientific papers, including Dr. Sarah Burch, Dr. Susan Elliott, Dr. Luna Khirfan, Dr. Linda Mortsch and Dr. Michelle Rutty from the Faculty of Environment.

New initiative launched to help Indonesia cope with climate change

To support Indonesia’s efforts to scale-up its climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts, the Flood Impacts, Carbon Pricing, and Ecosystem Sustainability (FINCAPES) project was launched earlier this week in Jakarta. Faculty of Environment researchers working together with colleagues in the Faculty of Mathematics and partners in Indonesia will explore carbon pricing and trading, and nature-based solutions to assist Indonesia with building a low-carbon economy and a healthier, more sustainable future.

Professor inducted into the Swedish Royal Academy of Agriculture and Forestry

The new international fellows Dag Fjeld, Sally Shortall, Pamela Ronald, Jennifer Clapp, Beatrix Alsanius, and Marius Masiulis.

Engaged in research projects around themes of food, agriculture, and the environment, Dr. Jennifer Clapp, Canada Research Chair and professor in the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability, was inducted into the Swedish Royal Academy of Agriculture and Forestry as a new international fellow on January 28, 2023. As an international fellow, Clapp will have the opportunity to participate in events of the Academy and engage in collaborative research projects with other fellows that advance the goal of more equitable and sustainable food systems that promote food security for all.
