This workshop will help female-identified faculty navigate the process of applying for promotion to full professor.
At Waterloo, the proportion of female faculty declines as we move up rank. We have too few female full professors, for a variety of reasons. This workshop will seek to demystify the process and offer support.
We have a growing range of opportunities to get involved with FAUW, including our Board of Directors and a number of committees and working groups. This session will give you a sense of what's involved, what we’re looking for, and how to join.
A panel of retirees (Nancy Theberge, Kinesiology, retired 2014; Mary Thompson, Statistics and Actuarial Science, 2009; Rohan Jayasundera, Physics & Astronomy, 2019; and Alan Macnaughton, Accounting & Finance, 2019) will share their experiences and advice on preparing for and making the most of retirement. Beth Jewkes will moderate the panel.
The Working Group on Sexual and Gender Diversity is hosting a follow-up to the last term's lunch event in the form of an informal drop-in coffee event for LGBTQ2S+ faculty and staff, including postdoctoral researchers, sessional instructors, research professors, and other employee groups at UW!
This is a drop-in, so don't feel pressured to be there for the whole time, but feel free to come when you can, grab some coffee, and hopefully meet some new people! Coffee should be arriving shortly after 2:00 p.m.
The FAUW Spring General Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, April 7 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.It will be a Microsoft Teams live event. The link to join the meeting has been emailed to voting members.
Are you interested in learning more about Indigenization but not sure where to start? Do you have ideas to share and are looking for a like-minded community to share them with? Faculty members who work or teach in STEM are invited to the first event of the newly formed Indigenization in STEM Community of Practice. Folks of all backgrounds and levels of familiarity with the topic are welcome.
This is a really strange time to be starting a new job. It's hard to meet fellow new faculty in other parts of Waterloo at any time, but this year is even harder. To help combat the isolation, the Faculty Association invites new faculty members to gather on Zoom this summer to meet colleagues from across campus who are also going through this experience.
Join the FAUW Indigenization Working Group for an informal discussion about Indigenizing performance reviews. The Indigenization Working Group aims to help faculty members better understand and take action on Indigenization and reconciliation efforts. As departments revise Annual Performance Review (APR) guidelines this fall, the Working Group has been surveying how other universities address the uniqueness of Indigenous scholarship and research in performance evaluations.
This year's new faculty orientation is a series of online synchronous panel sessions, along with a virtual resource fair and a break-out session for lecturers. The virtual resource fair will give you the opportunity to visit any one or all of five virtual “rooms” to chat with representatives from a wide range of campus resources.
