Red Dress Day 2026

Tuesday, May 5, 2026 10:30 am - 1:30 pm EDT (GMT -04:00)
Red dresses hang on trees on the B M H green.

Red Dress Day marks the national day of awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people in Canada.

The Office of Indigenous Relations (OIR) and the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office (SVPRO) will host Red Dress Day to honour Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People, featuring a sacred fire and a ceremonial dress‑hanging led by Elder Myeengun Henry. This will be followed by a storytelling presentation by researcher Tamara Bernard, who shares how storytelling serves as both remembrance and resistance—carrying the voices of those no longer here while restoring dignity and challenging harmful narratives.
