About the Faculty of Health

The Faculty of Health specializes in the prevention of illness and injury, and the optimization of health and well-being throughout the lifespan, at work and at leisure.

Transdisciplinary teaching and research activities encompass the full scope of research-to-practice-to-policy and aim to enhance all aspects of quality of life at the individual, community and population levels.

The Faculty is comprised of three academic units: School of Public Health Sciences, Kinesiology and Health Sciences, and Recreation and Leisure Studies, and is home to approximately 878 full- and part-time graduate and 2,765 undergraduate students.

The Faculty offers BA, BSc, and BPH undergraduate degrees, and MA, MHE, MHI, MPH, MSc and PhD graduate degrees, including online degrees in Public Health, Health Evaluation and Health Informatics and a collaborative PhD program in Aging, Health and Well-being.

Our 17,000+ alumni work in the public, private and voluntary/non-profit sectors and are regarded for their innovative, evidence-based approaches to health promotion and disease prevention.

Of the six Faculties at Waterloo, Health enjoys the second-highest level of research funding per faculty member and boasts collaborative, ground-breaking research groups and partnerships including the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA), Global Health Policy and Innovation Research Centre, and the Centre of Research Expertise for the Prevention of Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (CRE-MSD).
