Hey UWaterloo! My name is Jahanvi and I’m currently in my 2A term of Environment and Business. This is my 1st term as a Library Ambassador and I am enjoying every minute of it! My favourite part of the job is interacting with students to let them know about the cool events and services that the Library has to offer!

As a Library Ambassador, I get to interact with the Library’s amazing staff, and I recently had an opportunity to talk to Ryan Ball, the Lending Supervisor, Circulation Desk Training at Porter Circulation Services! Ryan has been in this position for almost 3 years now and enjoys his job because he loves working with students. His day-to-day tasks entail supervising and training casual, part-time, and full-time workers at the Dana Porter circulation desk. He is responsible for the recruitment, training and mentoring of staff. The staff employed at the Library often include students (just like me!), and Ryan ensures their overall well-being.

Ryan is an apt example of how the library’s staff works in the shadows to enhance student experience. For students employed by the library (which could be you!), he creates a friendly and welcoming atmosphere so that they can enjoy being at work. The Circulation Desk is crucial as it may be one of the first points-of-contact students have with the Library. Ryan ensures that the students’ experience is beyond satisfactory by training staff exceptionally well.

Always remember: if you have any questions, the Circulation Desk is your best friend! If you ever see any Library Ambassadors (wearing black shirts with “Ask Me!” written on them), feel free to reach out and say hello! We love meeting students and talking about how awesome the Library is!
