Library ambassadors: written by Gajani Nirthanarajah

Woman with goose

Hi everyone! My name is Gajani and I am a 2A student in the Biotechnology/CPA program. This is my first term as a Library Ambassador! Over the last month and a half, I have had the opportunity to work with amazing people on the Library Ambassador team, and further develop my skills in a variety of areas (interpersonal, leadership, public speaking etc).

So far this term, I have interacted with many first year students during the Engineering Orientation Club Day, as well as the Math Orientation Friday Funday. The library has many services that are beneficial to all students, but it has been great letting the new students know at all the events. Did you know the library offers Course Reserves and InterLibrary Loans free of charge to students?

For my term project, Reads of UW, I am working on promoting one of the fantastic perks in the library; the popular reads collection. From November 13-17, there will be a table set-up in Dana Porter Library where students can choose their favourite book out of a pile of book covers and glue it onto a collage. If you can’t find your favourite book in the pile, you can fill out a “my favourite read is…” card and glue it on too! My hope is that once students see all of the different books that they can find in the Waterloo Reads collection. Hopefully they will remember to take one out when they need to relax or take a break from studying.

I am really excited for my project, and all of the events throughout the term including Library Day and the upcoming Academic Integrity sessions. Being a Library Ambassador has given me the chance to interact with students and promote the library. I have also been able to take a behind-the-scenes look at library, which is really cool!

I hope to see all of you throughout the library! Thanks for reading, and best of luck on your midterms :)
