Adopting a targeted approach to dry eye management – What is the evidence telling us?

Abstract for online presentation by Dr. Jennifer Craig

The range of available dry eye treatment strategies has expanded in recent years providing many more options for patients and the clinicians who care for them yet knowing which option(s) to select as a starting point still remains somewhat of a challenge. The TFOS DEWS II report recommended a sound stepwise approach to dry eye management, taking into account the dry eye disease subtype and severity, but recognized shortcomings in the evidence base to support targeted treatment recommendations. Since the Workshop’s publication in 2017 there has been half a decade more research which has more closely evaluated treatments for dry eye, seeking to confirm treatment efficacy in subpopulations of dry eye to help guide practitioners in managing their patients. This presentation will focus on some of the recent research evaluating therapies that range from widely available patient-applied treatments through to more specialized, in-office therapies, to assist practitioners in creating targeted treatment plans for individual patients.
