Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Initiatives at Waterloo
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) was passed in 2005 with the goal of making Ontario accessible for people with disabilities by 2025. The Act consists of 5 standards: Customer Service, Information and Communications, Design of Public Spaces, Transportation, and Employment.
The University of Waterloo is committed to making our campus communities inclusive and accessible for persons with disabilities studying, visiting or working at Waterloo.
Procurement & Contract Services is committed to ensuring that accessibility factors are considered in advance of all University acquisitions.
In conjunction with the Accessibility Specialist, and in addition to internal accessibility checklists to assist those acquiring goods and services on behalf of the University of Waterloo, Procurement and Contract Services refers to the Council of Ontario Universities' Accessible Procurement Guide
The University of Waterloo acknowledges that much of our work takes place on the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg and Haudenosaunee peoples. Our main campus is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land granted to the Six Nations that includes six miles on each side of the Grand River. Our active work toward reconciliation takes place across our campuses through research, learning, teaching, and community building, and is co-ordinated within our Office of Indigenous Relations.
