Dear Renison,

We are all feeling the impact from the horrific attack that happened in Hagey Hall yesterday. We understand and share your additional distress in learning that this was a hate-motivated, gender-based crime.

Robin (right) was a shy, high school teenager when her family left their home in the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation and relocated to Waterloo. Robin immediately felt as though she had landed on a faraway planet. Being Indigenous without community or familiar symbols around, Robin struggled to find belonging.

In Memoriam: Erna Borch

With sadness, we share that Erna Borch, a much loved and long-time member of our Renison community, has passed away at the age of 95.

Daniel Qi, a graduate student who took JAPAN courses at Renison, recently received a prestigious scholarship funded by the Japanese Government. This scholarship is offered by The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (English acronym: MEXT) to Canadian students wishing to pursue their studies at a Japanese university.

Meet Chiara (she/her), a student at UW who is in her 3A term of Honours Arts, majoring in Political Science and minoring in Speech Communications. On behalf of Renison and UW, Chiara, shown here at the Canadian Embassy in Japan, traveled to Japan this year as she participated in JACAC, the Japan-Canada Academic Consortium. Read the full interview below as she describes what her experience was like and how Renison supported her along her journey!

On Wednesday, March 8, Renison celebrated with the world to commemorate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women in honour of International Women’s Day.

A booth was placed in the Renison Atrium where staff and students could creatively share the names of women that inspire them, receive a button, and learn more about the global celebration.
