SAF Professional Designations Forum 2025

SAF students, come to the Professional Designations Forum to hear about the designations that align with the courses you are taking and the work term experiences you are gaining through Co-op.

Speak to representatives at their booths and hear a "head-to-head" description of the designations at the Battle of the Designations presentation.

Get your questions answered and see if you want one or more of the designations.

Tim Jackson (BA'92), a sessional lecturer at Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business, will be awarded an honorary doctorate at this year's convocation ceremony.

We congratulate Tim on this well-deserved recognition as he receives the University's highest honour for his exceptional contributions within the University, Waterloo Region and beyond.

Ranjini Jha, a professor from the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF), will be recognized with the title of Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the Spring 2025 convocation ceremony.

Even after her retirement in 2024, Jha’s generosity and dedication to SAF finance students continues through the Jha Family Scholarship for Excellence in Finance, which supports high-achieving students pursuing careers in finance.

In celebration of Earth Day on April 22, we reflect on the growing need for environmental consciousness in the finance industry, highlighting SAF alumni who have been driving sustainable change since before it was mainstream.

Meet Ivan Li and Munam Khan—trailblazers in sustainable finance who are using their accounting and finance expertise to help organizations navigate climate risk, report on ESG, and build a better future.

As Earth Day prompts reflection on sustainability, Dr. Elizabeth Demers, professor at the School of Accounting and Finance, helps unpack the complexities of greenwashing in corporate reporting in this insightful Q&A. From new legislation to misleading ESG scores, learn why spotting the difference between real and performative environmental action is more important—and more complicated—than ever.

Over reading week, Alex, Anthony, Nancy, Sarah, and Vivian, graduate students from the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF), had the privilege of representing the University of Waterloo at the Canadian MBA/Graduate Finals of the Venture Capital Investment Competition (VCIC) in Halifax.

The University of Waterloo's Science and Business (SCBUS) program partnered with Thomas A. Blakelock High School's I-STEM program during the 2024-2025 academic year to provide grade 10 students with a unique opportunity to engage in entrepreneurial projects that addressed global challenges, blending scientific inquiry with business acumen.

Near the end of March, SAF's team of fourth-year students, Abisha (AFM), Colette (SFM), Dhiya (SFM), and Lucas (SFM), had the opportunity to represent the University of Waterloo for the first time at the McGill Desautels Business Ethics Case Competition in Montreal.
