My entire life, I was set on becoming a veterinarian. I was even accepted into a great program for it; at the same time, I was also accepted into the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF). However, when it came time to make my decision, I immediately knew that the Sustainability and Financial Management program (SFM) was where I would truly find happiness. Every day, I am still amazed by how incredible this decision has been, and I would not change it for anything.

Outside of how I can pursue a career that significantly impacts the world, there are countless reasons why I chose this program. One of the things that stood out to me was how valuable I felt when interacting with the staff. During the open house, I was really impressed by how attentive everyone was to prospective students like me. Their genuine kindness reassured me that their support wasn’t just for show, it was truly part of their character. The professors at SAF also go above and beyond to learn your name and ensure that you are excelling.

A significant reason why the staff and faculty at SAF care so much about your education is their awareness of the incredible job opportunities available to us through the co-op program. I know I would not have been as successful without the exceptional skill set we develop through this combination of classroom learning and hands-on work experience.

When I first visited, I enjoyed the architecture on the UWaterloo campus much more than other universities and could imagine myself admiring it each day as I walked to class. Now as a current student, it is an incredible feeling to do this while knowing that I am surrounded by people that I can so easily become friends with and reach out to. I didn’t feel this sense of belonging anywhere else, but at SAF.
