Future Students

Several thousand students along with their families attended the in-person Ontario Universities Fair (OUF) this year. They visited the booths of various renowned universities and collected information to help them make probably one of the biggest decisions of their lives, a decision that will influence their career and in a broader sense, the person they become.

As a current undergrad student at the University of Waterloo who was in the same place a few years ago, I couldn’t help but see a reflection of myself in these students.

We encourage all students to participate in SAF’s Investment Research Challenge next year as it gives students a unique experience to hone a skill set that can be very useful in their future career path.

From classroom to competition

IRC third place team
This term, our team had the pleasure of competing in the Investment Research Challenge (IRC); our first in-person case competition experience in university. Out of eleven teams, our team was honoured to have won third place in this competition.

AFM student uses goal setting to make the most of UWaterloo career

ritvik
My name is Ritvik and I’m a 4A Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) student (although it feels like no time has passed since my first year). When I started my university career, I set out with one goal for myself: to get to know everyone in my program within my year.

Life as a University of Waterloo student can have its fair share of ups and downs, but as a former upper-year mentor, I am here to tell you—take a deep breath and hang on.

As I saw a curious bunch of newly admitted students at You @ Waterloo Day, I was reminded of myself four years ago when I was also trying to make that same perplexing decision of which university and program to enroll in.

AFM and SFM sound similar, right? They share more similarities than students realize. However, the key differences between the two programs distinctly separate them as unique educational pathways. As an incoming student, all the information available may appear overwhelming to the point where you may question what exactly the distinctions between the programs are. I’ll give a quick rundown of the similarities and differences between AFM and SFM, and provide some insight into the programs that may be of interest to them.
