SAF students sweep the competition on a global scale

Winning team holds trophy

School of Accounting and Finance students Coco Dai, Ronis Goel, Arnav Sheth, Ryan Trainor and Aryaman Dhillon are this year’s champions the CFA Institute Research Challenge global finals in Warsaw, Poland on May 16th.

This challenge is the largest equity research competition in the world, providing university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis.

Participants were required to research, evaluate, compile a report on, and present an equity stock, with guidance and support from dedicated Industry Mentor, Jeannine LiChong, (MAcc ’92) and Faculty Advisor, Steve Balaban, CFA.

This practical learning experience imparts the best practices and essential skills needed for a successful career in investment analysis to the next generation of analysts. The student teams are subsequently assessed by a panel of esteemed judges from top investment industry organizations.

After months of preparation and wins at the local and national levels, The Waterloo team of students beat out 1,100 schools and 6,700 other students. They faced students from Qatar, Brazil, Australia, Philippines and Germany and after 6 rounds of competition, they are officially the global champions. Congratulations, team!
