After more than 15 years at the University of Waterloo, Dr. Blake Phillips is stepping down as Director of the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) to become Dean of the Dhillon School of Business at the University of Lethbridge. Before he goes, his colleagues, staff and friends at SAF want to mark the moment and thank him for everything he has given the School.

The School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) unveiled a commissioned three-panel Indigenous mural in the Don Craig Atrium in Hagey Hall on August 11, placing the Haudenosaunee Sky Woman creation story in permanent view at the centre of the School.

Patricia O’Malley (LLD ’16) was appointed to the Order of Canada, one of the country’s highest civilian honours.

She is a globally respected leader in financial reporting, having played a pivotal role in the development and international adoption of International Financial Reporting Standards.

SAF undergraduate programs are evolving in response to advancements in technology and sustainability. AFM is the first to implement these changes, but soon all programs will adopt this new model to embrace future-ready, experiential learning. 

Three faculty members from the School of Accounting and Finance — Lisa Pynenburg, Dr. Timothy Bauer and Dr. Krista Fiolleau — have been recognized with University of Waterloo Outstanding Performance Awards, celebrating their exceptional contributions to teaching and research. 

This week, the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) is thrilled to celebrate the Class of 2025 at Spring Convocation! 

As we highlight this milestone, we’re honoured to recognize three individuals whose achievements and contributions exemplify the very best of our community.
