Join the conversation at the President's Virtual Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 1:30 p.m.
The University of Waterloo continues to look forward through the uncertainty COVID-19 has created for our institution and the world beyond. To help answer questions and bring our community together once again, we will be hosting a President’s Virtual Town Hall via interactive livestream.
The Town Hall is an opportunity for Science leadership to listen to concerns from our Science community on racism and discrimination of all forms, from overt acts to those more unconscious in nature. The goal is for us to gain a better understanding of the problems facing Black, Indigenous and People of Colour. We hope to provide our Science Anti-Racism Taskforce with sufficient directions to formulate mitigation strategies so we may work together to become an inclusive academic society without racism.
We are pleased to announce a virtual meeting for the presentation of the first GOGREEN Data release and science results, hosted by the Waterloo Centre for Astrophysics. The public portion of the meeting will run from 10am-2pm EDT on Monday Aug 24, and 10am-12pm EDT on Tuesday Aug 25. To be included on future emails, and to receive the password-protected Zoom link on August 21, please register here. There is no registration fee.
We are kicking off the biweekly biology semester series for fall term with the inimitable Dr. Clara Chan from the University of Delaware, with a talk this Friday titled "How microbes rust the Earth: Insights from field studies, culturing and ‘omics"
Welcome to the Amazing Science Race!
Science teams ready, set and GO!
It's on! All alumni, students, friends and family are invited to join us online for the Amazing Science Race, a virtual race and scavenger hunt. You can participate on your own, or if you prefer, gather some friends or family members to round out your team.
Lasers are used in factories for burning through metal and in movies for blowing up space ships. But in the lab, we use them to cool atoms down to within one billionth of a degree of absolute zero. I'll explain how this works and how we've expanded this ultracold realm to include molecules as well. At these temperatures, we can perfectly control molecules to learn surprising things about chemistry and hopefully build a new platform for quantum computing.
Join us for casual conversations with researchers at the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC).
For our third Fireside Chat, we welcome Kristine Boone for a conversation about working on the boundary of research and industry.
Tune in live on YouTube.
Photons in Space: the Next Frontier! These are the voyages of Canada's first Quantum Satellite Mission - the Quantum EncrYption and Science Satellite (QEYSSat). Its upcoming mission: To explore strange new physics, and enable secure communication across Canada and around the world. To seek out new discoveries and new ways to communicate... To boldly send photons where none have gone before!
Event will be hosted on WebEx.
