Let’s do this Science!

Today’s the Day! Giving Tuesday, the annual global movement dedicated to giving back, is here! Alumni, friends, faculty, staff and our greater UW community are invited to be part of this philanthropic phenomena. Join us for an exciting day of Science donation challenges where all gifts received online today can unlock thousands of dollars in extra support for the Faculty of Science.

“All donations received today will make a big difference to our current science students, “says Bob Lemieux, Dean of Science, “Whether it’s a $10 or a $100 gift, please know how much we value your support. Show our students you care; that you believe not just in science but in their ability to become the world leaders we need.”

This year, the Faculty of Science has chosen to highlight the Impact Biology Fund.  Unless directed elsewhere in science, donations received today will be dedicated to this scholarship fund. Impact Biology was created to support undergraduate students in the Department of Biology. With a $500,000 goal, this endowed fund will ensure Waterloo is able to support the educational aspirations of our most promising biologists.

The Faculty of Science has created two challenges to entice new and repeating donors to be part of Giving Tuesday. Once each challenge has been completed, additional funds of $1000 each are ‘unlocked’ and added to the gift totals for the day. Together, we will make an impact!

Challenge #1: When $9,000 in gifts have been made to the Impact Biology Scholarship Fund, an extra $1,000 will be unlocked!

Challenge #2: When $10,000 in gifts have been made to the Impact Biology Scholarship Fund, an extra $1,000 will be unlocked!

Students are grateful for any financial help they receive and understand the donor commitment to their success. Nicole Abel, a first year Life Physics student, is a recipient of a biology entrance scholarship.

"Scholarships allows students, like me, to have more time to learn and enjoy their university experience and less time worrying about paying for tuition. I can't express my gratitude enough for the opportunity to direct my focus on learning here at Waterloo thanks to the aid of scholarships."

Thank you for believing in science and the incredible students who promise to make an impact.
