At the forefront of condensed matter physics, materials with novel quantum mechanical properties are being investigated for fundamental science and potential applications in quantum technology. Quantum chemist Dr. Adam Wei Tsen and his team are diving into this field with a particular focus on two-dimensional (2D) quantum materials. 

Four Waterloo scientists from three departments are in the top 1% of citations for their field of study and publication based on Clarivate Analytics’ Highly Cited Researchers™ 2022 list. An immigration app and waste plastic conversion technology were two Science companies competing in Concept's Spring '22 $5K pitch competition. The competition offers the opportunity for University of Waterloo student led companies with innovative solutions and high potential business ideas to showcase their hard work and compete for grant funding. 

An international training program between scientists and engineers from the University of Waterloo and partners in Germany got $1.65-million in federal funding from NSERC. The nine-year initiative will train dozens of graduate students and help bring promising new two-dimensional materials out of the laboratory and into the marketplace.
