Research in ocular health at Waterloo is comprehensive and broadly based. Optometry is home to the Centre for Ocular Research and Education (CORE), a multidisciplinary biosciences team that undertakes fundamental research related to the ocular surface and its compatibility with biomaterials, particularly contact lenses. CORE has been a leader in the field of ocular research for over 30 years and is not only investigating the interaction of novel contact lens materials with the ocular environment, but also developing novel therapeutics for dry eye and establishing procedures for ocular drug delivery.
The Human Visual Neuroscience (HVN) lab, also in Optometry, focuses on the development and plasticity of the human visual cortex.
